Barista Jam – HK’s Finest Espresso

I was able to make it over to Barista Jam in Sheung Wan today for the
first time. I’ve never had a better prepared shot of espresso. One of
the owners, William was there behind the well maintained machines, and
was a pleasure to talk with. They really take their coffee seriously.
We even talked about how we might modify the machine or make a custom
one together. And the beans, wow, great selection, roasted in HK and
all single origin, although they use blends for all espresso drinks
unless you request otherwise. Cost of $21 for a double is in line with
the competition, and is a great value for a nicely crafted brew.

What is the coffee commercial (perhaps Nescafe?) that had a bunch of friends sitting around talking?

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

It seemed to be a parody of the TV show ‘Friends’ and they were talking and chatting and making witty comments. Also, one commercial at the end had the girl holding a spoon with her nose. I am trying to find them on YouTube but am not sure of the company or when, etc…

What’s the difference between mocha, latte, frappe, espresso, cappuccino coffees?

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

I am a newbie to coffee drinking. I don’t like coffees that are really strong. When I get coffee, I always add cream, sugar and flavorings, if they are available. What do you reccomend?

Cuisinart DCC-1200PRC 12 Cup Replacement Carafe-Black Reviews …

Review by K. Moose for Cuisinart DCC-1200PRC 12 Cup Replacement Carafe-Black
Rating:
I have had my Cuisinart coffeemaker for 3-4 years now, and I’m currently on my fifth (!!!) replacement carafe. The carafe is fine. Its handle is sturdy, the carafe has never dribbled, and can hold max capacity of 12 cups of coffee. I use it about twice a day.

My only complaint is that the glass wall of the carafe is thin. My first, second, and third carafes were chipped or broken by falls. However, this latest one was very flimsy: after many months of handwashing (I never put it in the dishwasher), I accidentally tapped the side of the carafe on the granite counter next to the sink, and it _shattered_ into many small pieces. My fifth carafe now is 5 months strong.

Yes, it’s upsetting that the replacement carafes are so expensive. But the coffeemaker itself is excellent, and I won’t change getting replacement carafes (unless there is a generic out there that’s cheaper and sturdier). This makes me think of inkjet printers: they’re so cheap, but the ink is so expensive. The Cuisinart coffeemaker is inexpensive and EXCELLENT, but unfortunately the carafes are expensive.

CoffeeGeek – Nespresso Espresso Machines – Chris Whatley's Review

I had this and liked it for quite some time until I became completely bored with the coffees offered by nespresso.

My main complaint is actually about the coffee and since the machine and coffee are a total package, I think it is relevant here. The crema on the coffee from this machine had a very soapy and artificial nature to it. It is almost like there is an artificial foaming agent in the pod that makes this very consistent crema result. I didn’t find the crema of the espresso made by this machine to ever be particularly good in flavor.

The steaming/frothing wand is actually quite excellent. It is the one part of the machine that is actually quite easy to maintain and keep clean.

I have a special area for overly complex and poorly thought-through appliance purchases and this one is going in there.

I also had one of these break on me. Nespresso seemed unsurprised and had a very well-managed replacement process that had me on a new machine very quickly.
