What brand of espresso maker do you recommend?

Friday, September 24th, 2010

I love coffee and espresso drinks. I recently calculated how much I spend on this ‘love’ and have decided that it would be more economical to just buy an espresso maker. The problem is I don’t know what brand is the best quality for home/ personal use. I am willing to pay $400 and it must have a milk steamer feature.

Lavazza Espresso Machine: La Pavoni PAB-16 Espresso Si Black …

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Have had this espresso machine for several months now.Researched a lot before buying and believe this is a great machine for the money.Performs well.Makes a great shot of coffee, assuming you are using great espresso beans.Looks good on the counter, altho not a sexy as the more expensive machines. Not too noisy.Only major negative:Not a lot of clearance between the machine and the drip tray – can’t use anything taller than a cappuccino cup. Also, machine does drip a bit after you stop brewing.
Consider getting a good burr grinder to go with it.I highly recommend the Capresso Infinity.
Takes a 53mm tamper size.

Ascaso DR.118 Dream 16-Bar-Pump Espresso Machine, Polished | Best …

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

Our little Ascaso just gave up the ghost, after less than four years of delicious daily cappuccino for my wife and me. We’ll miss it. But we haven’t decided how to replace it.

This machine was fully manual, which meant getting good coffee out of it was like getting a melody out of a Stradivarius. It took practice and patience. But once dialed in, ahh, the results were splendid. My wife could never get the foam just right, and never learned to give it enough time to cool down after making the foam without scalding the coffee. But I found all the right ways to make delicious espresso beverages of all types.

I liked the machine, loved the design, tolerated the price, and the adored the coffee it made, but I can’t give it the highest rating. Fairly early on the foam wand started leaking, just a little. Then the seals stopped sealing well which caused un-pressed coffee/water to leak around the brew basket into the cup (a repairable problem.) Then the temperature gauge stopped working – not really a big deal. But the death nail problem was the demise of the heating element. No heat, no coffee, no steam, no nothing. And even Seattle’s espresso repair shop can’t locate a replacement heating element.

Will I buy another Ascaso, or try a different brand? I don’t know yet. Did we get almost four years of good espresso out of a $650 (on sale at Starbucks in 2006) machine? Yep. Should we have gotten more years of service? I’d like to think so. Would my wife prefer to listen to a digital CD player (i.e. use a fully automatic machine) to learning how to play a musical instrument (like the Ascaso)? As long as I’m around to make the coffee, she doesn’t care.
RIP Little Ascaso Dream

Bialetti Mini Express 2-Cup Stovetop Percolator Overview

Aluminum, stovetop espresso maker produces 2 cup of rich, authentic Italian espresso in just 4-5 minutes.

BUY LOW PRICES FROM HERE NOW!

Got it as a present for my husband. It works well except that it can be messy, it tends to spray coffee over the stovetop. The cups are not always evenly filled and seems to depend on the level you fill the water. The rubber seems to be going, and will need to find a replacement, hopefully not difficult to find. We use this item several times per day.

Message from Bialetti about the gasket:

In this case you would need a “Carded Pack for Aluminum Espresso Makers” in
the 2-cup size. You will find them here:

Technical Details

  • Easy to Use
  • Fits right on the stovetop
  • Produces great tasting espresso
  • Ready in 4-5 minutes
  • Italian quality and design

Can I order a DECAF white chocolate mocha at starbucks? Weird question I know, but I don’t even know if it exists! In general, what can you order as “decaf?” Can you do this if its an espresso drink? I like to get my coffee later in the evening but I don’t like being up all night.

What is stopping my stove top espresso maker from making coffee?

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

I recently bought a second hand stove top espresso maker but it doesn’t work. Whenever I try to make a pot, only about 1/4 of the water is forced through the coffee – I end up with lots of hot water in the bottom and only a little coffee in the top section. I’ve replaced the rubber ring and always run it full of water so it’s not those things. Help please!

Looking for a coffee/cappuccino maker?

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

What is the best value buy when it comes to coffee/cappuccino makers? I don’t need one that makes espressos. I want mine to make coffee and cappuccinos. If it makes espressos that is fine, but I need it to make regular cappuccinos as well.

How do you use an automatic coffee dripolator?

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Got a new one as a gift but really smartly threw the directions out with the box!!I know it may seem easy being automatic, but it just doesnt seem to be working!!! Ive put water in the chamber at the back, and put coffee in the filter bit. It seems to be working (making heating up noise) but then instead of dripping it runs out!! Its like the dripper thing isnt working properly ( not releasing or something)
If anyone can help me it would be muchly appreciated!!!
