How To Play A Government Shutdown

Saturday, April 9th, 2011

The indexes are red, only by a few points, but the greater issue at hand is whether the government shuts down or not.

Democrats have agreed to $38 billion in cuts, one of the largest spending cuts in recent memory. the major sticking point at this time, is planned Parenthood, which the Republicans want to stop giving aid to. the Democrats have called this a sticking point, and it looks like mr. Market is waking up and paying attention.

The deadline is midnight tonight, and with the shutdown getting ever closer, will the markets tank, essentially forcing a deal? If so, the market can be expected to bounce back after the two sides get a deal done.

If traders believe this will happen, then they could look at adding ProShares S&P 500 Short ETF (NYSE: SDS) in response to a government shutdown, and then going long SPDR S&P 500 ETF (NYSE: SPY) once it becomes clear that the two sides have worked out their issues.

There is an awful lot riding on a government shutdown, so it’s in the people’s best interests for no shutdown. If the government is shut down, essential services will be cut, or furloughed, and that is something no one wants.

We all understand spending is out of control, but that’s why we elected those in Washington. we want you to make the tough choices for us, in the best interest of ALL, not just some.

help buying a small coffee maker?

Posted by Admin on 08 Sep 2010 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

Ive been looking to get a coffee maker for awhile now, the only real problem I have is it seems like every thing I look at is either 12 cups or single cups. I am looking for something like in the 4-8 cup range. I am either looking for helpful websites or personal recommendations. Thanks a lot.

  1. i use a Mr. Coffee 4 cup coffee maker. the only draw back I notice is that it takes just as much coffee to make good coffee, and I stock up when I find the filters. But it shuts it’self off in 2 hours if I forget, which I like. I also have a 10 cup Bunn that I love but I don’t make 10 cups I just make 8. It doesn’t take as much coffee per cup as the 4 cup does.

  2. I would recommend a French Press. It makes better coffee and it’s much cheaper. They are available in many sizes.

  3. Your search is over browse the Coffee Pot.Biz Rat.com, Target.com, Sears.com, JC Penny.com, Bottom Dollar.com, Price Grabber.com. I have many more but I feel you’ll find your coffeepot. Happy Hunting!!

  5. You can find ratings and pricing on the page below.
My personal experience is that the simpler the coffee maker, the cheaper.
Quality of coffee depends on how fresh the beans are and if they get ground immediately before brewing. Brand of coffee maker is secondary.

  6. Personally I have tried BUNN nhbx-b 10 cup coffee maker. If you’re really into coffee probably you know BUNN is one of the best coffeemaker manufacturer. It costs about $100 sometimes less sometimes more. This coffeemaker is probably the best solution for home and has a reasonable price.
If you’re looking for a lower price, maybe you should consider Mr. Coffee DRX5, which is 6-cup coffeemaker (also 12-cup model available). It has well responses from the owners and is ridiculously cheap ~$30.

Simple and Effective
Simple and effective – works exactly as expected. Using it for my Rancilio Silvia 58mm portafilter.

Works well, very cheap. Wish I’d bought one sooner!
This 58mm backflush fits the portafilter on my Gaggia Coffee Deluxe perfectly, as though it was made for it. Combined with a half teaspoon of Urnex Cafiza cleaner, cleaning my machine is a snap. And a clean machine means better tasting coffee.

After investing in a high quality espresso machine & burr grinder, and roasting my own beans, I can’t see the point of not spending another .75 on this important accessory.

Does the job.
Been using it for a little over six months, and the thing does the job.

It Fits, It Works, It’s Cheap
As the item description states, this blind basket will fit into a 58-mm (commercial size) portafilter. In my case, it fit perfectly in a Gaggia New Baby 2006 portafilter. I attempted to backflush my machine and did worked! In my case backflushing does not appear to be necessary because only clear liquid came out and there didn’t appear to be any build-up behind the shower screen (though there are many who will argue otherwise). At I believe the cost is really reasonable even if I never use it on the Gaggia again, I can still probably use it on any other 58-mm portafilter machine.

Note: Remember that you can only backflush a machine with a 3-way valve. If you are unsure of whether your machine has one or not I would strongly recommend finding out before buying this and possibly damaging your machine!

Good product
This blind basket works very well and didn’t break the bank. Fits perfectly in the portafilter of my Rancilio Silvia.

It’s always nice before you drop your hard earned money to know what other people think of the product once they’ve owned and used it for a while. Here are some real reviews from product owners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best crema machine.
I’ve been using this machine for two years now, and it is still making wonderful espresso, with the best crema I’ve ever had. I’ve used a lot of machines, but none has come close to the quality of this machine. In the time I’ve been using it ,I’ve never had a problem with blocked filters. Maybe that’s because I buy the beans ground. In fact, I’ve not had any problems with this machine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Feedback from a long-term owner
I have owned this machine for about a year (my third machine after returning two others, made by different manufacturers).
When buying this machine, I was afraid of all the negative feedback regarding the filters getting clogged. In my experience (touch wood), after using this machine about 150 times… I HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED A CLOGGED FILTER.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Machine
All I can say is WOW! My teenage daughters and I love espresso & designer lattes, This machine made it a BREEZE for us to give up all the overpriced designer cafes in our area. My brother is a coffee snob and spent literally thousands on a fully automated Capresso machine. You could buy a couple dozen of these Breville machines for the price of his.. and you know what? It’s a few seconds more work but the coffee is JUST AS GOOD!

One of my daughters is visually impaired and she can work the machine and clean it with no problems.

Assembly was easy, cleanup is easy, and making three different beverages in seconds is a breeze, too. We have three completely different tastes so we’ve managed quite a few different drinks. I make sugar free soy lattes using Soy Slender and sugar free DaVinci flavors. We’ve frothed skim, 2%, whole and soy milks of every type. Even heavy whipping cream and half & half froth perfectly.

The only issue we had was that one time we tamped the espresso a little too firmly and nothing would come out. If you tamp lightly, you’ll have no problem at all and the crema is absolutely superb!

As for the reviewer that said their espresso was watery, if you use a fine ground espresso, that definately won’t be a problem. The two-serving filter makes a great double shot, but if you try to make more than that, I can see how you could end up with something watery. The drip tray does need emptying once in a while, but that’s the same with every espresso maker I’ve ever used.

I DEFINATELY recommend this machine!!

Water Fountain Pumphow to keep a Outdoor Water Fountain from freezing & cracking during the winter season??

I have an outdoor water fountain on my front porch.wondering if I have to turn off the water pump and empty the water out..before it get to the freezing point this winter…what shall I do? Or can I keep it running during the winter season?..Do I need to bring it inside?Thank-you..enjoy your day..

it should have come with winterizing instructions. you can leave it running providing your power does not tend to go out for days at a time when it is freezing out. but i would recommend turning it off and draining it for the winter. if you have a garage, put it in there. otherwise, put a large Plastic Bag over it to keep out water and leaves. it should be fine on the porch. I shut off my pond waterfall in the really cold months because we tend to lose our power a lot.

9 Amazing Laser-Etched Laptops You Must See

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

Two years ago laser-etched laptops were all over the Internet, mainly because of the famous tarsier and Magritte Powerbooks. But since then people have been busily etching all kinds of things into their laptop lids, from the Mona Lisa to Barry Manilow to My Pretty Pony. In fact, we found nine pieces of etched art (“art” being a relative term) you probably haven’t seen before. Most of them are from Etchstar, with an absolutely gorgeous example from Engrave Your Tech.
