According to various media outlets the New York Jets have blinked and gave Darrelle Revis a new contract, ending the All-Pro cornerback’s holdout a week before the team’s season opener.
Contract terms weren’t immediately available, but various sources said it is a seven-year contract that can void to four years.
Revis is expected in New York on Monday to sign the contract and resume practice with the Jets ahead of the Jets opener against the Baltimore Ravens, a week from Monday.
Revis, who has made $15 million in his first three seasons, was due to make $21 million over the next three, including $1 million this season. He wanted to become the highest-paid cornerback in the league, seeking about $16 million per season.
The Jets previously offered Revis a 10-year, $120 million contract and a four-year, $40 million deal, but there was only a small amount of guaranteed money in each proposal. Revis’ agents countered by asking for $162 million over 10 years, with more than $40 million guaranteed.
I guess later today we will find out how close to that $16 million a year Revis got.
