Promotional Products For Office Supply Companies

Saturday, April 9th, 2011

The second largest consumers of promotional products are office supply companies – and it’s little wonder. Since most stationers and office supply retailers offer the same range of products, there are only a few ways to stand out. The most important way, of course, is in establishing and maintaining excellent customer relationships. those relationships should be based on providing the very best customer service possible – but promotional products also play a valuable part in making those relationships personal.

Since so many promotional products are products that are offered for sale by office supply companies and stationers, there are many choices of promotional products that are appropriate for your type of company. The ones that you choose will depend on the purpose of your promotion. any promotional products or marketing gifts should be part of a carefully planned and considered marketing plan. Some considerations in choosing the right promotional products for your company are:

Purpose of the Promotional Gift

Marketing professionals use promotional products in many different ways – often within the same campaign. One campaign might include a mailer sent out by direct mail with a pad of sticky notes and an offer of a free mouse pad with an order of more than £25. your company might decide to institute a loyalty programme with promo points and different levels of rewards for purchases. Choose promotional products that are appropriate to the purpose of the gift.

Value to Cost Ratio

Once you know the purpose of the gift that you’re giving, you can assign a value to it. if you’re sending out direct mail flyers and expect a response of 1 out of every 300 mailers, the cost of three hundred mailers is your cost to acquire one new customer. You can reduce that amount by increasing the response to your mailers with a more valuable gift. The gift that you choose to give your most valued customers should be of higher value than one that you hand out to a customer who may make one purchase every two or three months.

Increase sales of particular items

Want to increase sales of one of your high profit margin items? Offer a promotional gift with purchase and you’ll see sales soar. Choose promotional products that coordinate with the products that you want to sell. Better yet, choose a product that is complemented by the product on which you want to increase sales. is your intent to increase sales of a particular size of sticky notes? Include a free refillable note dispenser in the right size for that line of sticky notes.

Timing of your Promotional Campaigns

Pay attention to the timing of your promotional campaigns. There are certain types of items that will make a big impression at particular times of year. Calendars and desk pads at the turn of the year, account books just before tax time, loyalty gifts at holiday time – these are all well-timed promotional gifts. Other promotional campaign ideas are timed in the life cycle of the company or of your company. Anniversary promotions, office opening gifts and the like are all great ways to recognize your customers and increase your name recognition at the same time.

Are intermediaries are becoming less or more important to marketers?

Saturday, April 9th, 2011

The Internet has created rapid change in the sale and distribution of most goods. perhaps nowhere is such change more apparent than in the office supply market. by the early 1990s, half of the smaller stationers in the United States had gone out of business—about 6,000 stores. Staples, Office Depot, and other large retailers, many of them with online services, rapidly replaced them. so, what happened to companies like United Stationers that supplied those small stationers with the products they sold? when that Randall Larrimore became the company’s chief executive in 1994, United Stationers wasn’t doing too well. Larrimore was determined to reverse United Stationers’ fortunes. He modernized United Stationers by using the latest supply-chain concepts.
Business as Usual is a small store; only 1,500 square feet. Despite its size, its prices are competitive with those of not only the office superstores in nearby Twin Falls but also online sellers. the reason Business as Usual remains competitive is that United Stationers can readily provide it with some 35,000 items from more than 500 manufacturers at prices lower than those it could get by ordering directly from the manufactures. United Stationers can purchase the products from the manufacturers more cheaply than small stores because it orders in such large volumes. It can then pass part of the savings on to its customers.

If Business as Usual places an order to United Stationers by 4 p.m., the store gets the supplies by the next day. Even better, Business as Usual can have United Stationers send the supplies directly to its customers. by providing a large inventory and speedy delivery low prices, United Stationers has made it possible for small companies to survive. It was Randall Larrimore who helped make all this possible. Staples and Office Depot also use the services of United Stationers. These superstores order in such large volumes that they buy most of their products directly from manufacturers. However, there are many products that are not very popular but that superstores must carry in order to become one-stop shopping centers for office supplies. since ordering these products directly from the manufacturer is not efficient, the superstores turn to United Stationers. United Stationers also supplies many of the office products that get sold online by Dell Computer and 125 other companies.
In the United States, there are hundreds of thousands of suppliers like United Stationers, providing similar services to retailers like United Stationers, ranging from automobile suppliers to zoo shop souvenirs. the whole system for distributing goods has changed over the last decade or so. the advent of online retailers has altered the way customers buy and the way manufacturers sell. the Internet has also changed the way goods are distributed.
Are intermediaries are becoming less or more important to marketers?

Good to check this article and the question is a bit too good to answer.. I will try to answer as simply as possible. taking some customer's mind into consideration every now and then he will look for new and the best way he can be served. so, obviously the thinking levels of the marketers will definitely look to it and should change accordingly.

PS: One should know his customer's mind and should be ready to change his plans accordingly to serve him better.

According to Market Research World, market research is "a systematic, objective collection and analysis of data about a particular target market, competition, and/or environment." Market research can define your target market or see how successful your product or service is in the marketplace.
Market research can be quantitative, which uses numbers (for instance, a scale from 1 to 10) to describe customer appreciation of such things as quality, cost and satisfaction. the study can also be qualitative, which uses the customers' own words to explain their feelings about your product or service

Market research allows you to create a targeted marketing strategy. This plan can improve your sales and your customer satisfaction. Market research can be used to study new product ideas, product performance and marketplace position. It can also be used to measure customer service satisfaction.
Many independent marketing firms conduct market research. You can contract with these businesses, or perform your own market study

Ministry brings service to streets – Columbia Chronicle

Saturday, October 9th, 2010

A small crowd gathered at the corner of Wilson Avenue and Hazel Street before the bus pulled in. Some talked among themselves while others waited quietly and expectantly for The Night Ministry to arrive.

The ministry’s health outreach mobile is more of a large camping trailer similar to the size of a tour bus. The inside is fitted with seats and compartment-like stations one might expect at a hospital. The medical room is stocked with supplies, an exam table and a nurse on staff who provides services such as HIV and STD testing, blood pressure and sugar checks, among others.

The bus serves as an all-purpose center, equal-parts clinic, shelter and a safe social gathering space with the added benefit of counseling services by clergy from a variety of different religious backgrounds.

The Night Ministry, which includes two youth shelters and a comprehensive youth outreach program in addition to the health outreach bus, fills a void in Chicago neighborhoods when local shelters close for the evening.

These services are all free of charge in conjunction with food donated by local organizations.

“If [The Night Ministry] wasn’t here, there wouldn’t be anybody out here,” said Robert Gasior, a 42-year-old Chicago resident who has been visiting the ministry for five years. “If they weren’t here, people would have a harder time with what they go through.”

According to Gasior, services for underserved populations in the Uptown area are absent three days out of the week. The Night Ministry has stepped and provided residents with access to healthcare and other vital services.

The Night Ministry’s reputation precedes it. Everyone is welcome on all of the bus’s six stops on its two routes regardless of age, religion, race or any other demographic.

“We try to be mindful of the particular needs, the particular culture and the particular context of each neighborhood we serve,” said Reverend David Weasley, community and congregational relations coordinator at The Night Ministry.

The Reverend is relatively new to the organization, but he fits in immediately. According to Weasley, The Night Ministry provides a ministry of presence to the Chicago communities it serves.

“We go to be present where they’re at,” Weasley said. “Where they’re at emotionally, where they’re at spiritually, where they’re at economically, but also literally where they’re at.”

Though originally conceived by a foundation of about 20 various, faith-based congregations, The Night Ministry does not set out to proselytize. According to Weasley, many of the volunteers and staff see their work with the ministry as an extension of their devotional life. However, the non-denominational organization does not attempt to convert visitors as part of its mission.

Founded in 1976, The Night Ministry is the product of an idea, to an extent, from local pastor Tom Behrens, one of the ministry’s first employees. Behrens spent years on the streets of Chicago, often wearing his clergy collar, operating solely out of his car’s trunk to find the population’s needs firsthand. The current night ministry, home-based in Lakeview, largely grew out of what Behrens learned from being out with the people at night.

As of 1976, youth services and healthcare are still underfunded and drastically inaccessible to the most vulnerable of the city’s population.

According to data from the 2010 Census, poverty in Illinois has risen 24 percent in the last decade. Nearly 22 percent of Chicago’s population now lives below the poverty line, and this includes over 205,000 children.

Poverty in the state is growing significantly, according to ProgressIllinois.com. Nearly 1.7 million residents live below the poverty line, this includes more than 581,000 children in 2009—a rise from 443,000 ten years prior. For a family of three that line is $18,310 per year, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The Night Ministry is on the front lines of providing consistent services to the city’s most at-risk populations, according to Megan Groves, marketing and communications coordinator at the ministry. The buses arrive on a set schedule to provide visitors with a reliable support network.

According to Groves, more than 4,000 volunteers spent more than 25,000 hours with The Night Ministry between July 2009–10. In that same time, the organization’s health outreach bus saw around 56,000 people while its three housing programs provided shelter for 400 youth and their children.

“We think it’s important to be accepting,” Groves said. “And to accept everyone no matter who they are, where they are in their lives and no matter what they’ve been through.”

Cheap Halloween Decorations and Party Supplies for Wise Witches

Jul 15, 2010 Christina Gregoire

One good thing about decorating for a Halloween party is that nothing has to be centered, straight, or perfect in any way. Actually, the more off-kilter things are, the better the effect will be.

Halloween Home Decor

Here are some inexpensive, but eerily elegant ideas:

  • Spider Webs: Fake spider webs are cheap and add a lot to the general ambiance. Another way to get the look is to buy cotton batting and pull it apart. Don’t forget the spiders. Then, add fake bugs for the spider’s trapped food. Don’t go overboard with this unless the party is for children.
  • Black Accessories: Go to the neighborhood thrift store for cheap (beat up) vases, silverware holders, candelabras or candle holders, fake flowers, wreaths, small statues, wine goblets, or anything with an interesting shape. Spray most of these treasures with flat black spray paint. Some should be painted a nice pumpkin orange, or any interesting combo of colors that will make the objects appear old (dark copper, pewter, gray, wine).

Group the goodies on tables for a nice Gothic effect. Dried red roses always look “fresh” in vases and black spray-painted branches are another good touch. (Use fake flickering candles for a stress-free event, unless only adults are in attendance.)

Unexpected Creepy Details

Halloween Bottles: To make Halloween bottles, save old bottles and jars. Fill with non toxic substances (solids or liquids) and label as poisonous. Either buy sticky labels online or use these printouts:

Frozen Hands: Get clear plastic gloves. Several days before the party, fill the gloves with water, tie at the wrist and put in the freezer. Keep the frozen hands in their gloves and use them as ice cubes in punchbowls, on fruit trays, or anywhere.

Halloween Themed BackdropsGet some cheap (unstretched) artist’s canvas from an art supply store. Staple this to the wall and paint black images of cemetery headstones or bare trees. It’s easy to do this and one should not try to make these images look perfect. Use gray blue for the sky and make it painterly by slopping it around a bit. Acrylics are the easiest but oil paints are the best for blending purposes. Have some white paint to add and blend into the sky in random areas.

An easier background can be achieved by cutting out tombstone shapes from cardboard and painting them black or gray. Tape them up along a wall. For design ideas, try Googling things like:

  • Theme Backdrops for Parties
  • Halloween Backdrops

Most inexpensive backdrops and wall decals are suitable, only, for children’s parties, but a host can get good decorating ideas from these backdrop websites. Sometimes these sites carry inexpensive fake headstones, skulls, and other fabulous props that can be blended with more elegant decorative items.

Anyone who has the money should consider having a beautiful backdrop made. Or, find an artist from a local community college. Go for a nebulous, hazy background. It’s faster, easier, and better.

Spooky Bodies

Find an old wedding dress (or any outfit) at the thrift store. Spray it black. Stuff the clothing with newspaper or plastic bags (keep it mostly flat) and staple the outfit to the wall with heavy staples (in a corner where it will startle people). Use a mask for the face and gloves for the hands. Arrange this in a way that it will make interesting “wall art”. Keep it up all year and play with it for various holidays. (Normal people might want to use more stuffing and just set the body on the ground in the corner.

Best Decorating Supplies

Good things to have on hand for decorating:

  • Cheap (or Expensive) Spider Web Ribbon: Use this for tying back curtains or for decorating table accessories.
  • Black Lace Halloween Swag from GrandinRoad.com: This is not expensive but a good alternative would be to find cheap lace and spray it black. Some sites recommend dying fabric, but it is messy and this leaves behind too many object casualties. In the long run, dying fabric (especially in a washing machine) is unexpectedly expensive.
  • Fake Pumpkins: These can be carved, painted, or decorated.
  • Party Skull String Lights and Black-light Bulbs
  • Dry Ice
  • Black Paper Plates, Napkins, and Plastic Utensils
  • A Few Ravens and Plastic Bats
  • Cheap Black or Wine Fabric: This is good for throwing over furniture or tables.
  • A Macabre Sense of Humor and an Exquisite Imagination

Unless it is a children’s party, it’s better to have less, but better, decorations. Creativity, low lighting, and black lace can cover a multitude of sins.
